Irvin Etienne, the following is in relation to the postings on fire flies aka lightning bugs that came "down the pike" a day or two ago. Last night my neighbor brought me what he thought was a fire fly (in a canning jar) which he had caught after it landed on his screen door! I looked them up on Wikipedia, and it does look like a fire fly with the yellow underneath side of about one third of its abdomen. Wikipedia says that there are over 2,000 varieties of fire flies; they are extremely rare out West - but we did see one!
