Is God Listening? There are times when it seems like God just isn’t listening. We pray, we petition, we plead, but the heavens are silent. Nothing seems to change; sometimes things seem to even get worse. Ever been there? Are you there now? In desperation, David cried out in Psalm 28:1, 2, “To you I call, O LORD, you are my Rock; do not turn a deaf ear to me. For if you remain silent, I will be like those who go down to the pit. Hear my cry for mercy as I call to you for help, as I lift up my hands toward your Most Holy Place.” Yet, for David, and sometimes for us, there was a difficult path ahead when it just seemed that nothing would break loose. In our hour of trial, as we persist in prayer, approaching the throne of grace with confidence; as we determine to hold fast to the One in whom we have believed, knowing that He always lives to intercede for us; as we rely upon the promises of God’s care, so that we might receive mercy and find grace to help in our time of need; as we listen closely to the voice of the Spirit, change will come. Then, we like David, can proclaim, “Praise be to the LORD, for he has heard my cry for mercy. The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him. The LORD is the strength of his people, a fortress of salvation for his anointed one. Save your people and bless your inheritance; be their shepherd and carry them forever” (Ps. 28:6-9, NIV). Through the test and trial, God was present, and is present now, to deliver.
