Is Humphrey Bogart cooler than Cary Grant? Its a close call. High Sierra, with a strong John Huston script, was the break-out role for Bogart. (Ida Lupino was a bigger star at the time. She later became one of the first woman movie directors, including a good movie called The Bigamist which, as the title implies, had an edgy theme for its day.) But tonight Declan and I enjoyed some good old robbery, tough-talking dames, tommy-guns, murder, and car chases. Thats Faircloth family values.
