Is Major Gen. Kenrick Maharaj a political puppet? Since bypassing his seniors in the Trinidad & Tobago Defence Force (TTDF) and becoming the Head of the TTDF, Major Gen. Maharaj has been no stranger to controversy and has been closely linked to the Persad-Bissessar administration. On the Morning of June 27th 2012 in Debe, Kenrick Maharaj, the Chief of Defense Staff actively accompanied the then Minister of National Security, Jack Warner and junior Minister Colin Partap with 50 armed soldiers to break down the camp of the Highway Re-Route Movement (HRRM) and manhandle environmental activist Wayne Kublalsingh and other protestors. He had abused the authority of his office by authorising soldiers to confront a citizen of Trinidad & Tobago under the purview of the Minister of National Security then, who had strung him along. It certainly seems that he has no problem taking orders from the political directorate, who is slowly but surely creeping in a military driven dictatorship.
