Is direct democracy feasible? What does an MP do; aside betray - TopicsExpress

Is direct democracy feasible? What does an MP do; aside betray their constituents by representing the party rather than the constituent? Some simply follow the party line and collect a pay check. Others read a small document produced by their party, think they are informed and vote with the party. Some actually do make informed decisions but follow the whip regardless. Only on really controversial issues do they ever rebel; even then unwillingly. How would that change with a direct democracy? Yes, some people will not have the knowledge but they could read the same small document and make their own decision. Or they have the option to ask someone they trust which way to vote. At least the final decision is theirs. That what democracy is about; having a voice. I dont have a voice in our current system; I vote an MP and then he doesnt listen to me. My ideology is not represented because I dont conform to rigid party lines. Maybe I want to vote left on one issue and right on another. Why should I not have that choice? The great informed politicians of our country have done ever so well in preventing the worse economic crisis in a century. This link shows you what bills are being proposed in parliament and require voting: services.parliament.uk/bills/ Didnt count but its under 200. For the year. Thats less than one bill a day, which I believe is within the capabilities of everyone and anyone. Also, they are all yes or no questions. Do you accept the complex action/strategy these people have drafted? Thoughts?
