Is it a riot when police arent there? And have folks coined the term police riot? It describes acts of chaos that are provoked by the police, in order to justify police aggression. What happens when protestors remain peaceful in the face of violence? Protestors preserve moral authority, and expose the officiousness of the powers of oppression. Hats off to the people of Ferguson for linking arms and offering focusing support to the handful of justifiably outraged citizens who might lose their cool. I heard one such citizen saying, fight battles you can win. Or, as John Lennon said, When it gets down to having to use violence, then you are playing the system’s game. The establishment will irritate you – pull your beard, flick your face – to make you fight. Because once they’ve got you violent, then they know how to handle you.
