Is there any advice anyone can give me on alternatives when co-sleeping isnt working please? I am not sleeping well at all and constantly waking up moving my 10 month old as my arm is numb or I am uncomfortable, checking he hasnt got squashed or wriggled under a pillow or the duvet or fallen out of bed or moving him as he is too hot. Also he does not seem to be able to sleep well either as in addition to me disturbing his sleep, he frequently wakes up for some reason and looks for me or my partner then cwtches in. As much as we love co-sleeping, I am really struggling with the lack of sleep and it has come to a point that we have to do something different for all our sakes. I would be happy just to get 3 hours of unbroken sleep a night!!! I am also happy for him to stay in my room. I feel like the only other options that have been suggested to me are different forms of sleep training and even the gentlest one where I am sat next to the cot and he is in it crying for 2 mins then I pick him up and reassure him then put him down for 3,4,5 mins feels like torture. I feel like its the only option as I dont know what else to do but it feels so wrong and I worry how it is damaging him. At 7 months my Health Visitor told me that he should be in his own room. She also said about stopping night feeds but we have ignored that. I am seeing her tomorrow out of desperation for advice but I know she is going to say again he should be in his cot in his own room and advise me to train him to go to sleep and sleep longer by using a method that involves all of us getting too upset and neither myself or my partner feel we can do it, we just want to cuddle him. I dont understand how all the advice in the day seems to be centred around the baby - feed on demand, baby led weaning, pick up on cues for when they are tired/hungry so they dont get to the crying stage yet in the night time you are expected to go against all your instincts and leave your child cry when all they want is to be close to you.
