Is your pet shaking its head? Scratching ears continuously? Do you see a crusty or black discharge in the ear canal? Well maybe your pet has ear mites. Ear mites are closely related to the spider family. Highly contagious they can be easily passed from one pet to another. Symptoms include: Itching of the ears, head and neck Sometimes generalized itching Excessive scratching at ears and around head Frequently shaking the head Thick red-brown or black crusts in the outer ear Coffee ground like bumps in the ear canal Abrasions and scratches on the back side of the ears Crusting and scale on the neck, rump and tail If you suspect ear mites or observe any of the symptoms mentioned above in your pet, please contact your vet for help on how to stop the suffering and rid your animal of these pests.
