Isa 58: 6-12 we are accustomed on special occasions share scriptures that promises God’s abiding presence and favour (vs 11) as an example. However, the passage informs us that God is not some magic genie who does our bidding; rather their are some seemingly difficult conditions (the saying there is no fee lunch comes to mind). However, again unlike popular Christian religion, piety and ceremony is not highlighted as conditions for God’s favour (vs 9), rather practicality (vs 10 and others). God followers, it appears needs to get our hands dirty and engage with the issues of the vulnerable not only conceptually but physically (vs 6-7). Living life the way God requires is clearly not easy (religion is a breeze in comparison), but it’s worth it knowing that God promises his ear and favour to God followers who pursue such a reciprocal relationship with him. Live long and prosper (as Mr Spoke would say).
