Islam is all about...... • Imam Ali reportedly said: 1- Whoever assumes the position of Imam (leader) has to educate himself before educating others. He should set the example for others before giving them written or oral orientation. A self-educated and self-cultured person is more worthy of respect than one who educates and advises others. 2- I recommend to you five things that no effort, however great, should be spared to achieve: No one should put hope except in God. One should fear only being in sin. One should not be ashamed when asked about something that is not in his knowledge to say he does not know. Nor should one be ashamed to learn a thing that he does not know. Practice endurance and patience; it is to the faith what the head is to the body. There is no good in a body without a head, or in faith without endurance. 3- Keep good relations with God and God will attend to your relations with people. 4- I am surprised at the miser: he hastens to poverty from which he wanted so much to escape, and misses the riches he has sought. He lives in the world the life of the poor, but is accountable in the other world on the same footing as the rich. 5:A- I am surprised at the haughty : yesterday he was a sperm, and tomorrow he will become a decaying corpse. B- I am surprised at the person who doubt the existence of God while he sees His creation. C- I am surprised at him who forgets death while he sees the dead. D- I am surprised at one who, having seen this life, denies the life to come. E- I am surprised at him who constructs for a world that is ephemeral and forgets the world that is eternal. 6-Guard against cold at the beginning of the season and welcome it towards the end. It works on the body in the same manner as it affects the trees, at its beginning it kills the leaves, but at the end it helps them sprout. -1- 7- The greatness of the creator in your heart belittles the creation in your eyes. 8- Those who commit themselves to the following four actions will not be deprived of their effects: One who prays will not be denied response; One who repents will not be denied acceptance; One who asks God s forgiveness will be forgiven; One who is grateful will have more of God s grace. 9- Describing the mob, the Imam (leader) said: They are overwhelming when they gather, and insignificant when they disperse. 10- God Almighty has made an obligation on the money of the rich to feed the poor. Hunger among the poor is offset by more enjoyment by the rich, and they shall be accountable for that before God. 11- Never have I lost a duel except with poverty: if I show it, it exposes me, and if I conceal it, it kills me. Poverty almost amounts to impiety. 12- The surest wealth is the total despair of any gain at the hands of others. 13- The Imam said to Jaber (one of his followers) : O Jaber! Four categories of people represent the mainstay of religion and life: a man of knowledge whose knowledge is put to the service of people, an ignorant person who does not hesitate to learn; a generous man who is not miser, and poor man who would not sell his other world for this one. If the man with knowledge does not benefit others, the ignorant will refrain from learning. If the rich does not spend generously, the poor will be reduced to selling their next world for this one. O Jaber when the favors of God are lavished on a person, people s need for his generosity also abounds. He who discharges his obligations to God in this regard preserves and increases his lot, while he who abstains from such obligations causes his wealth to diminish and disappear. 14- The Imam said: you are master of what you say until you utter it, once you deliver it, you are its captives. Preserve your tongue as you do your gold and money. One word could bring disgrace and the termination of a bliss. 15- Confidence in this world in spite of what you witness of it is ignorance Failure to perfect your work while you are sure of the reward is injustice to yourself. Trusting in people before try them is weakness. 16- Renounce this world, and God will reveal to you its shortcomings. Do not indulge in forgetfulness; you will not be forgotten. Speak and you will be known! Your talk will reveal your personality. 17- Whatever you are content with is sufficient for you. 18- Fortune is not stable, one day it smiles to you, the next it will frown upon you. Do not exult if it is a good day, and be patient if it is a grim one. 19- There are mutual rights between parents and children. The parent s right is to be obeyed in all matters except in a thing that God does not allow. The children s rights are to give them a good names, to give them a good education, and to teach them the Book of God. 20- Do good, even if it appears insignificant. 21- Tolerance is a protective cover; wisdom is a sharp sword. Cover your deficiencies with tolerance and fight your passion with wisdom. 22- One should not be confident of two situations; health and wealth. A healthy person can be attacked by disease, and a wealthy person can be reduced to poverty. 23- Every day that is marked by obedience to God is a day of festival. 24- A martyr in the cause of God is not a higher position than one who forgives when he is able to punish; such a person is almost an angel. 25- The worst sin is that which looks trivial in the eyes of the sinner. 26- Be moderate in your love for a friend or hatred for an enemy. The former may turn into an enemy and the latter may turn into a friend. 27- A person in a position to punish is most worthy of pardoning. 28- Patience is not only in the face of what you do not like, but also of what you like. 29- Wealth in exile is a homeland; poverty at home is exile. 30- Wealth is the vehicle of passion. 31- A good deed that endures is better than many which do not last. 32- Do not be shy when giving little; deprivation is still less. 33- Live with the people in such a manner that they will grieve if you die and will miss you in your absence. 34- The most impotent person is one who fails to have friends; still less potent is one who fails to retain the friends he has. 35- Evil persons trace the shortcomings of people and forget their good qualities, like flies that frequent dirty places. 36- In bad times, the riches are less secure than the poor. 37- The death of a good person is relief to him(herself); the death of an evil person is relief to others. 38- Fulfillment of a promise is like beauty to face. 39- People! You are but a summation of days; a part of you is gone with each passing day. 40- My Lord! Suffice it to be a source of pride for me that You are my Lord, and a source of security and dignity that I am Your slave. You are as I have wished; make me as You wish. There are more to come about Islam……
