Islam, the universal religion, preceded Prophet Mohammad (pls): The holy month of Ramadan is a month in which the holy Qur’an was revealed by stages. So Kowri Soh would like to reflect about the universal aspect of the Islam. Many non-Muslims as well as many ignorant Muslims do not understand that Islam is a universal religion. Islam does not start with Prophet Mohammad (pbu). All prophets of Allah, the Almighty, were of Islamic faith. In fact, it was Prophet Ibrahim (puh) [Abraham] who gave the name of “Muslim” to Muslims. Allah says, « Eboukoum Ibrahim youwe’ lethii semaakoumoul mouslimiin» (The holy Qur’an), which means that it is your father Ibrahim who named you “Muslims”. For instance, the following verses, among many others, are sufficient examples about the Islamic faith of Prophet Abrahim and other Prophets (peace be upon all of them): “Abraham was not a Jew nor yet a Christian; but he was true in Faith, and bowed his will to Allah (which is Islam), and he joined not gods with Allah” [Quran 3:67]. “Say: "(Allah) speaketh the Truth: follow the religion of Abraham, the sane in faith; he was not of the Pagans” [Quran 3:95]. “Say: "Verily, my Lord hath guided me to a way that is straight, - a religion of right, - the path (trod) by Abraham the true in Faith, and he (certainly) joined not gods with Allah” [Quran 6:161]. “Abraham was indeed a model, devoutly obedient to Allah, (and) true in Faith, and he joined not gods with Allah. He showed his gratitude for the favors of Allah, who chose him, and guided him to a Straight Way. And We gave him Good in this world, and he will be, in the Hereafter, in the ranks of the Righteous. So We have taught thee the inspired (Message), "Follow the ways of Abraham the True in Faith, and he joined not gods with Allah” [Quran 16:120-123]. “Say, "We have believed in Allah and in what was revealed to us and what was revealed to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, and the Descendants, and in what was given to Moses and Jesus and to the prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and we are Muslims [submitting] to Him.” [Qur’an 84] In a nutshell: Today, if millions of people (of all nationalities, males and females), are embracing Islam and converting into Islam, it is because they are discovering the universal character of Islam and its TRUTHFULNESS—walaw karihal kaafiroun.
