Isnt there a cause? 2 Samuel 23: 11-12 And after him was Shammah the son of Agee the Hararite. The Philistines had gathered together into a troop where there was a piece of ground full of lentils. So the people fled from the Philistines. 12 But he stationed himself in the middle of the field, defended it, and killed the Philistines. So the LORD brought about a great victory. In the annals of the mighty men of King David was this man Shammah. The Philistine enemy had attacked the nation at the time of harvest, a time when everyone mind and effort was on the harvest and not war. Everyone had fled away out of fear, and left the fields harvested and at he mercy of he enemy. But one man, Shammah, refused to run away. Maybe he had run away before, but this time, he decided there was too much at stake to run. Without the harvest, there was no food and without food, the nation would starve. He resolved to fight for the land, even though he was by himself. It was famous British Statesman and Philosopher, Edmund Burke, who warned that all it takes for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing. laws are being passed everyday that curtail the freedoms of the christian and his faith, but no one seems to challenge them. a couple who owned a B&B were adjudged to be guilty and fined £3600 for refusing to book in a gay couple in their B&B.(Mail online 20.01.11). Most disappointing though was the silence of the mainstream church, whos voice one would have expected to hear in support of this elderly couple who stood for their religious convictions. The question we have to wrestle with in our generation is what legacy shall we bequeath our children if we do not do something about a society bent on eliminating God from itself? History will tell you no empire has ever prevailed in the absence of God, they all eventually crumble. 2011 was that elderly couple, in another year it may be your rights infringed upon! Do we need to do something as believers? Martin Luther King said the ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy. Shalom Sent from my iPad
