It ERKS me when some pre-school educators or ppl in general (not all ar, SOME), chide kiasu parents (as we are labeled these days) for pushing our kids too hard, competing or racing with one another on our childrens ability to read and count. We are NOT RACING. We are being REALISTIC. Half of these ppl who have so many thgs to disapprove on such kiasu parents, i want to ask you these: 1) Have u seen and maybe browse a little bit on the Primary 1 curriculum these days? 2) Have u seen how primary school kids STRUGGLE with their work, to catch up with their peers in school? 3? Have u seen P6 parents signing up for all the enrichment and tuition only on the year their kids turn 12, to realise that hell, it may b too late? And yes, last but not least, are u living with an MOE primary sch teacher who, in more than several occasions, tells real-life stories on the kids in school are struggling not just with schoolwork but with self-motivation? Think twice before u post such things. You are living in Singapore, not some laid back AngMo country. PSLE is REAL. The day these ppl get rid of PSLE, will be the day u can tell kiasu parents to take a chill pill. Till then, try to judge less.
