It Is Time For Some Good News! This letter is in regards to the Car Accident on April 11th, on Rte.62 at Broadway, involving 2 Mount Union students. One of those students Rain Motz, is our (Randy & Shelley Neel) daughter. Within minutes of the accident there were Twitter and Facebook posts stating that she had been killed, while her friend Mel Mason was in critical condition. We want to assure everyone that Rainbow and Mel are ALIVE! They were critically injured. Rainbow had some injury to her brain, and severe facial fractures for which she had surgery the day after the accident. Her jaws are wired shut and she had a Trachea to help her breathe. She spent 10 days in surgical intensive care and is now home getting better every day! Mel had both her legs and arm severely broken. She was taken by ambulance to Metro Health Medical Center in Cleveland where she underwent surgery to repair the damage to both her legs. After 2 weeks she was released to a Rehabilitation facility in Cuyahoga Falls for a few weeks to learn to walk with a walker and is now home and getting better every day! Both of these young women have shown more strength and courage than we have ever seen. They have taken what has happened to them without complaint or self-pity. They are our HEROES!!! They have more medical issues ahead of them. Mel has physical therapy, to learn to walk without the walker. Rainbow will be going to get her wires off and begin to eat Real Food again instead of the Blended food (Mac n Cheese) she has had to drink since the 14th of April. She is so excited! Then she will be going to the Dentist to see what the damage is to her teeth. Next week she starts physical therapy (her and Mel will get to work out together). They want everyone to know they are THANKFUL for all the calls, cards, gifts, flowers, prayers and kindness shown to them throughout this ordeal. Randy and I would like to take this time to “THANK” everyone who reached out to us and our daughter during this tragedy. We are amazed with the amount of care and help offered to us and to Rainbow. First we must give Thanks to God. If ever there was a doubt in anyone’s mind if there is a GOD? We can surely tell you, THERE IS! He was there with our girls that night, before, during and after the accident. He sent many, many Angels to Pray for them. There were moms awakened by their children telling them about the accident, who then stayed up and prayed for our girls. The Nimishillen Township Rescue squad who answered the call, did an Amazing job helping Rainbow and getting her to the hospital. We thank God for these Angels who can answer a call like that and help save lives! That is God’s Work! To the State Highway Patrol Officers for doing their job and doing it well. We thank you! To Sara, a nurse at Aultman hospital, you are one of God’s Angels. Thank You so much! The University of Mount Union was exceptional in being here for us from the night of the accident and every day after. Rainbow’s Sorority Sisters of Alpha Delta Pi, The Brothers of Phi Kappa Tau, Kristen Gromes, John Davis. Alumni of the University and Sorority. All of Rainbow’s friends, their parents, classmates, Teachers and the Staff at the University Bookstore. To Mel and her parents (Jay & Cathy) who have been absolutely loving, thoughtful and kind through every single minute of this ordeal. We Thank You all so much. To My Angels I would also like to personally Thank my daughter Sunshine for being here for me. I nervously called her right after I got the call from the hospital. She dropped what she was doing and came to help me. She is my Strength and Common Sense in times of need, I love you with all my heart! I Thank my grandson Brandon, he loves his aunt Rainbow so much he sold his video game to raise money for her. My grandsons Drew and Logan who made their aunt Rainbow a cupcake bank and pictures. I also must Thank my husband, Randy. He is my rock! He is (legally speaking, Rainbow’s stepdad) but, in our lives he is her DAD! He left work that night and never left her side. When she was released from the hospital she had to come home with a Trachea, which needed around the clock care. (I just could not do it) He said he would take care of it. It involved daily changing of a tube that was inserted inside the tube in her neck, keeping her airway clear. He also had to monitor her vitals closely. He has never done anything like this before so WOW! He done an Excellent job of caring for her. They have a bond as strong as any biological dad/daughter. He has been her daddy since she was just 6 months old and works hard to provide for us and make sure that Rainbow has the financial help she needs to attend a great collage such as The University of Mount Union. Thank you with all our heart, we appreciate all you do and love you! Your continued prayers for a full recovery are appreciated. For those wanting to give a gift also very appreciated….. An account has been setup for RainbowMotz@ Stark Federal Credit Union in Alliance. They also have branches in Canton and Minerva.
