It appears that next Wednesday will be my last shift at K Mart before it closes for good February 1. This is the third store for which I worked. Remembering lots of people (mostly good) that I worked with. My fondest memories are back at the Smyrna store. Most of my family worked there at one time or another; so many that some joked they should re-name it C Mart. Friends there gave all in my family a place to work and take our minds off of some painful low points of life. I think the most fun was the Christmas Eve day that my brother Aaron was asked to play Christmas carols on a keyboard as I sang along. I worked at the Menomonie store when I moved to Wisconsin briefly in 2002-2003 and met Harvey Reckard, the GM there and one of the best people I ever worked for. So much so, that when we returned to the state in 2009 and I saw he was the manager in Eau Claire, I went to work for him for awhile and came back this past October after being away for three years. He was one of the people I felt worst for when this closing was announced. Im glad he found better employment quickly. I doubt that I will work for K Mart again, regardless of wherever we end up. Retail, in general, requires great b.s. tolerance, something I am known to possess little of. Looking forward to the company party/reunion on Thursday.
