It has been 54 hours since Lily was brought out of anesthesia - TopicsExpress

It has been 54 hours since Lily was brought out of anesthesia after her heart catheterization on Thursday. Immediately, Lily woke up like a rocket, and by the time they wheeled her back to her room she was screaming for Mommy and telling everyone she was thirsty. About an hour later, our very alert girl stopped breathing and became completely unresponsive. She needed to be bagged three times, and put on bi-pap. Overnight Lily spiked a fever, but she is already on Vancomycin and Meropenam so she should be covered. This morning Lily stopped vomiting and took off her bi-pap mask. The doctor decided that if she was alert enough to take off her mask that perhaps she no longer needed it. Lily was transitioned back onto regular oxygen. Her blood gases have looked great all day, but Jacques and I are very concerned. Lily has had an altered mental status all day. She has no idea how to work her LeapPad, tried to drink out of her spoon repeatedly, is very confused, sleeps a lot, and will barely answer our questions. The most heartbreaking thing happened tonight when she started crying for mommy. I asked her who I am, and she has no idea. My poor sweet baby girl must be so frightened. One Cardiologist thinks this is just a delayed emergence from anesthesia, and perhaps an adverse reaction from the anesthesia in combination with one or several of her IV drips. The Cardiologist tonight thinks it might be a side effect of the Narcan, so he weaned for an hour and just shut it off. It is very unsettling to see my brilliant child look at me totally confused, and not have a concrete reason as to why. When my concern grips me, I cling to the promise in Revelation 21:4, He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever. Only God friends. Eucharisteo
