It has been two weeks and a day since Freddies adventure began at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. From coming in from home renal failure to falling asleep while he was in the ER. He has sleep apnea, his oxygen level dropped and CO 2 level so high he required immediate intervention. CPap over night , and intubated and put on a ventilator two weeks a ago. He had a tracheostomy tube placed on Thursday, had a problem with it and was immediately taken back to the OR to fix the problem. He had been sedated until yesterday.Medications used for sedation have been discontinued. He is still very lethargic. Ive been told the medication he got for sedation is absorbed by fat, and the more far someone has the longer it takes to wear off. He is becoming more alert gradually, he only yes/no questions with nods or shaking his head side to side. Today he half smiled and stuck his tongue out at the nurse and I as we were putting a new feeding tube into his nose. Hes on a special bed to help prevent pressure ulcers, and it also has features that help when turning him. The staff are very meticulous about turning and wound prevention. The renal functions are back to normal. Last evening he was discharged from CCU to a Respiratory Care Unit. That is a step in the right direction. Thank you for the continues prayers Janet
