It has often happened to me that a comment I make on a post of mine or that of someone else seems to me to require a separate post. I have found some of my other friends also feel that sometimes a comment requires a separate post. Today here is a comment that I wish to make as a separate post. I could edit this post but I would like to leave it as a comment involving the person who kind of inspired or provoked me to write this. Let the discussion go on. Here is my comment: Bibek Sen, I do not really know how to react to your views. I am a simple guy and I try to understand the world in simple ways. I am not a high funda intellectual. I am no academic. My reading is limited. My understanding is limited. But as far as Dialectical Materialism is concerned my understanding is guided primarily by one single document: On Contradiction written by Mao Ze Dong way back in the 1930s. I think it is the most scientific exposition of the idea of dialectics. Apart from On Contradiction, the book Dialectics of Nature written by Frederick Engels is interesting. But unfortunately, nobody has so far updated that book. It was first published in 1883 or thereabouts but it needs to be updated. Whatever little knowledge I have about science tells me that even if this book is updated the basic thrust of the book will remain the same - science has not yet found anything that disproves dialectics - and despite my limited knowledge I can still say that I am an avid follower of science and do try to keep track of the latest scientific discoveries. So, on the whole, despite my limited knowledge, I have not found anything that scientists have discovered that disproves dialectics of nature or dialectics of the Universe. The Universe is dialectical and the latest theories in physics and cosmology - string theory or theories about hyperspace etc do not contradict dialectics in any way. Similarly theories about evolution and life on planet Earth do not contradict dialectics in any way. To me science seems to be confirming dialectics every day. And science deals with this material Universe. So to me dialectical materialism is the only scientific philosophy that makes sense to me. Every thing else , in my view, is just mumbo jumbo.
