It hasnt been quite 10 days but three of the four houses that were vandalized in my hood have been painted over. After the incident we had a meeting with just a few people in the hood. As voices were raised and fingers started to point, we had to remind each other that 86% our children live in single parent homes or are being looked after by relatives. It took a day for everyones emotions to settle but over all mutual feeling was hurt sadness...BUT there was never a loss of hope. We began to discuss ideas for the kids in our area, things we need to do together it became more apparent and we agreed you cannot simply rely on Nations programs to fix our youth. The ONE kid out of FOUR is painting over our houses, he had to set his pride aside to make it right. Dont give up on our young people. Weve got to be tough on them while staying compassionate.
