It hurts so much to see Black people learn to hate themselves... Light skin does not mean more value. Formal speech does not mean more value. whiteness does not equal intelligence/higher status/superiority. Its all learned. Take a second and think about how much people love to take from our culture and people... Our music, our dance, our bodies, our time... They wouldnt be doing that if they didnt think there was value. There is an inherent value in Blackness that no exploiter could ever take away. We built this society as it stands today (metaphorically and literally). We are under the most pressure to submit to belief systems that are rooted in our oppression, but we must reject them at all costs. White Supremacy and Racism want us to hate ourselves, believe that we are to blame for our circumstances, and most insultingly, that we need to be the ones to solve our predicament. THIS IS BULLSHIT. Your hair, your skin, your culture, your music, your people are valuable in and of themselves. We do not need to prove our worth to anyone. How you choose to value blackness is up to you, but you must start with the premise that Blackness is valuable. Focus on showing the value of Blackness to other Black people because focusing on white appreciation and assimilation does not produce self-love especially when a lot of white acceptance involves self-hate. Love yourself. Love your Blackness and all the ugly, beautiful, frustrating things in it, because believe me, every other culture is doing the same thing. We are taught this is selfish because they are scared that one day well see just how valuable we truly are.
