It is Albert Einstein (1879-1955) who once said that “the only thing that interferes with my learning is my education “. That’s a very interesting thought. Albert Einstein is said to have been incredibly humble. Yet he was very intelligent. Such a genius with such greatness. He developed the theory of relativity, one of the two pillars of quantum mechanics and physics. Einstein is best known in popular culture for his mass-energy equivalence formula E = mc2.In 1921, he received the Nobel Prize in physics for his services to theoretical physics, and especially for his discovery of the law of the photoelectric effect. He was pivotal in establishing the Quantum theory. I am thinking about the paradox here. A great man, intelligent but very humble. Humble enough to know that he did not know everything. Humble enough to explore new, unique, and opposing ideas. Humble enough to acknowledge that his education would hinder him at times. Perhaps, it could have been this humility that accelerated his learning and propelled him into the top echelons of the world of physics. Linking that to Jesus the Nazarene. Paul of Tarsus writes in Philippians Chapter two says he acted in humility. Paul admonishes human kind to act in humility of mind like Jesus. He goes further to ask men regard others better than themselves and not to merely look out for their own personal interests. I just ask myself. What would happen if the traded our personal interests for those of others. Can a typical Kenya do what we many of us consider as crazy? I am talking about doing things like helping another motorist to change a flat tyre, help the blind and the young cross the road and fix leaking roofs for widows and orphans, making a meal for the security guard who watches at night as you soundly sleep? Just thinking.
