It is a rare occasion that I post an issue that is political on this page. As a rule I dont want this page to become political - BUT - at the age of almost 65 (just a couple of sleeps to go) I am becoming more & more concerned at the rising INEQUALITY between the rich & poor in our NZ. I am NOT suggesting which party to vote for. I wouldnt do that. But, I think all of us need to think seriously & deeply about the kind of country we want NZ to be. Over the past 4 - 5 years I have had to adjust from being near the top-end of salary scale to now being at the bottom. I now understand first-hand the pressures families of low-paid workers are under. Those in Parliament & those leaders in the corporate world making the economic & social decisions about NZ had the luxury of gaining university qualifications virtually free & have generally not looked back as they progressed up the economic ladder of a working life. Very few of them have experienced financial hardship first-hand yet they make decisions that impact on the financial, economic, vocational & family-life aspects of all NZers. I believe it is TIME FOR A MAJOR RE-THINK & CHANGE OF DIRECTION FOR NZ.
