“It is all the same for them whether you ask forgiveness for them or do not ask forgiveness for them; never will Allah forgive them. Indeed, Allah does not guide the defiantly disobedient people.” Quran | Al-Munaafiqun | [63:6] The verse discusses the worst of all creations, the munaafiqun or the hypocrites who apparently claim to believe in Allah and His Apostle but in fact are liars according to the words of Allah Almighty. Hypocrisy has been condemned in Islam and any such person is said to have prepared for himself a painful torment in the Hereafter. Prophet has mentioned the characteristics of a hypocrite in a hadith as follows; "Four characteristics are such that the one who has all the four, is a hypocrite through and through, and the one who has one of these, has one characteristic of hypocrisy in him until he gives it up: that when he is entrusted with something, he proves dishonest; when he speaks, he lies; when he makes a promise, he breaks it; and when he quarrels he crosses all limits of morality and decency." (Bukhari, Muslim). This is a crucial stage as we all need to stop and ponder over these; do we possess any such characteristic and if yes, are we true Muslims and how far are we honest with our religion? We still have time to check ourselves and correct our flaws so as to be able to be called the true ummatis of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
