It is extremely important, vital even, for us to understand that the ultimate goal of life, even the spiritual life, IS NOT to make it to Heaven. Heaven, and the Earth made new, is the REWARD for living out the GOAL which is CHRISTLIKENESS(being like Jesus). Heaven as the goal dictates I serve God only because of the benefit of Heaven and the deficit of hell, while Christ as the goal dictates I will serve God and be like Him even if there never was a Heaven to gain and a hell to avoid. Lets not fall into the deception of worshipping God simply because we dont want to go to hell and went that heavenly hookup. After all, Jesus is only coming back and taking with Him only those who look like Him.
