: It is funny, but also worrisome and characteristic for the deep difficulty of our human mind to adapt to new scientific insights, that the materialistic worldview is still upheld by such a great majority of people, including scientists, including those that proclaim to be guided by rationality. Albert Einstein, in a stroke of deep genius, wrote in 1905 the formula E=mc2, which proves that mass, and hence also the mass carried by matter, is equivalent to energy. And more, the relation between both is contained in a very simple formula, where only one other quantity appears, the velocity of light -- by all means. There is not any, even tiny, doubt that Einsteins relativity theory, at least for what respect its predictions, is the correct (and we should wrote more correct) theory of all items that it touches upon, hence also this new nature of what mass, and matter are. Meanwhile quantum theory has brought much more shocks to materialism, there is anti-matter, for example, and if both matter and anti-matter are brought into content, they disintegrate each other, and only radiation energy is left. Sometimes when I confront strong materialistic minds with the above, they will tell me yes, but with matter, we mean energy, hence materialism should be called energetism. That would indeed already be a welcome shift, but… let us be honest, with quite some consequences for the thinking within such a energetistic worldview (instead of a materialistic worldview). Energy indeed is very fluid compared to matter, and also, if really dared to be taken seriously, very abstract (just think of the form which is called potential energy). It however does not stop there. Also the view of energies present in space-time as a fundament, has no longer the capacity to be the foundations of a worldview, due to the experimentally verified non-locality (non-spatiality) of quantum entities. We fully understand that this new blow to materialism has not been digested yet, because it does not date from 1905, but from 1982, when Alain Aspect in Paris performed the crucial experiment concerning the non-local (non-spatial) nature of quantum entities.
