It is insane that two men, sitting on opposite sides of the world, should be able to decide to bring an end to civilisation. President Kennedy & General Secretary Khrushchevs Cuban Missile Crisis, a thirteen day stalemate occurring throughout October of 1962, symbolised for the world, the moment in which the U.S.A.s & the former U.S.S.R.s ideological Cold War, came closest to descending into unrestrained nuclear conflict. Following the U.S.A.s installation of nuclear missiles in Italy & Turkey, trained upon Moscow, & a failed attempt to overthrow the Cuban regime, at the Bay Of Pigs in 1961, Khrushchev, reached a secret agreement with Castro to install nuclear armaments in Cuba, which occurred in May 1962. A military blockade, later embargo, by the U.S.A. of Cuba, an embargo that exists to this day, only escalated further, tensions between the two warring superpowers. Nuclear warfare appeared immanent, & inescapable. Commemorating then the 50th Anniversary of the Cuban Missile Crisis in 2012, the JFK Presidential Library commissioned the production of an interactive documentary, Clouds Over Cuba; a speculative historical reexamination of the event that both defined an era, & introduced to the world the possibility, of a global nuclear cataclysm. --KT
