It is night before school begins again … and here is my letter - TopicsExpress

It is night before school begins again … and here is my letter to the teachers of my children: Please know that I trust you. Let’s begin with that. Because the children that I send to spend 8 hours with you nearly every day this year help define who I am. All summer long, we have been together. My children and I are a cohesive group who know and understand personalities, temperaments, and moods. I am the mom. And I know without a pause which of my darlings like cheese, salsa, fish, fried foods or carrots. I know who needs 10 hours of sleep and who needs 8 ½. I know who longs for some quiet time and who is ready for adventure. It is my choice to send them tomorrow morning on a huge, orange bus full of other anxious souls. And they are excited. And ready. There are some parents are set to dish off their children to the care of another institution for other reasons. And you will work with that. But I feel much differently. I very much choose to send my babes to be with you. I choose it because interacting with others will make them stronger, more capable members of our society. Dealing with a lunch that does not exactly fit what my child craves will teach him to be adaptable. Struggling to open a gym locker, get dressed on time, and still be an athletic star in his physical education class teaches him perseverance. And eventually teaches him perspective. I have a child who can’t sit still. He learns best while moving his body. You have read all about that! Here he is! Let him learn! Please reference what you have learned! I trust you to, rather than squashing him, develop his special spirit! I have a child for whom all of the letters get jumbled up when she reads. You have read all about that! And here she is! I trust you will be able to help her … teach her! She is amazing, so this is not a short-coming. I trust your quest for advancing this special need! I have a child for whom school comes easy. Help her realize her potential while staying in touch with her peers! She craves social interaction without being separated from her primary family! She is able to run our entire household and yet is capable of so much more! I trust your insight and instruction! I have a child who is talented and brilliant but will shut down if misunderstood. Please understand him. Let him express his unique thoughts and do not judge them because these thoughts are new. I trust that you will see, as I do, how much this child will contribute to our world if his thinking is encouraged! Miss them? For sure! Our summer schedule is so happy! Without the children’s energy, certainly the dog will be lonely. The cat will be lonely. The horses will be lonely. The scooters, motor-bikes and trampoline will miss their activity. And me? Yes, of course, I will miss my children. But tomorrow morning I send these youngsters to you. This is deliberate. This is my heart in your classroom. This is my love! I believe that what you give these children for 8 hours each day is more than what I can in so many different ways. But please … enjoy them. Teach them. I am better because they grow in your guidance. And I trust you!
