It is not a problem if one wants not to be part of development - - TopicsExpress

It is not a problem if one wants not to be part of development - that is when one wants to use land in their own way. But to lock land that it can never be sold is not the way ahead. Moreover, the Indians have not been given any land for their contributions. They has to work on it - mostly been evicted and most are migrating. The Indians are not begging for land, it is all about rights, the right to own land in the country that one has developed. If the iTaukei cant see that, it is better to stay in the village and keep away from the development and the politics. Rather than doing that, the past has been sad where there have been forceful evictions, burning down houses and creating a culture of coups. We must live in the present and share the resources that we have, equally, and all of Fijians and their ancestors have contributed to this land. Making native land freehold does not mean that someone is taking iTaukei land, but giving iTaukei the chance to prove whether their set of cultural beliefs are actually genuine or can be sold when money is seen. The future system can share the land among all Fijians and keep a smaller portion as reserved for nature and indigenous culture.
