It is now the last week of August. Many people are taking much needed vacations. And some of them are angry and resentful that teachers and professors get the whole summer off. But though I am not teaching my classes, I am not exactly idle, For the last two weeks, I have been preparing my courses, but most important, I have been writing letters of recommendation and meeting with former students to help them carve out a career path in a challenging economy. Thats right FORMER students. My relationship with students doesnt end when a class ends. I continue to communicate with and work with students long after they have taken a class with me and in some instances, long after they graduate. Thats what it means to be a TEACHER FOR LIFE. And thats why no test frozen in time can measure what teachers really do..
