It is with heavy hearts that we inform our supporters that funding for our Bull Shark & RecFishSA projects has not been continued. We remain eternally grateful to our primary funders, the Save Our Seas Foundation, for generously supporting these projects the past few years. With their support we reached new heights within our organization. Some key highlights include: - describing a range extension & new maximum size for bull sharks; - documenting the first transboundary migration of bull sharks in Africa; - creating the first species-specific protected area for bull sharks in SA; - documenting attitudes, perceptions and beliefs about bull sharks through the delivery of >200 surveys - tagging 750 elasmobranchs - training >250 anglers in responsible fishing practices - teaching anglers how best to contribute to the national tagging program & best data collection practices as part of our Citizen Science project; - development of the first survey to quantify socio-economic value of recreational shark fishing in South Africa for co-management purposes. It is our hope that other funding can be secured to help us carry on with this research, as the projects are constantly evolving and there are so many more questions to answer and sharks to study. Again, a heartfelt thanks to the SOSF. We look forward to our continued involvement with them through our newly funded “Surfing & Sharks Tour” education & outreach project. The SASC research team
