It just goes to show how important it is to focus on what someone CAN do and even excel at rather than what he or she cant. It is also a lesson in showing us that sometimes someone doesnt have to master something simple before he or she does something complex. My boys never learned how to stack the smaller nesting cups into the bigger cups although there was a time in their education when it was felt that they must master nesting cups before learning anything else such as computers. Although they never learned the mastery of nesting cups they can navigate screens on an iPad extremely well. Just likeDerek doesnt know how many fingers he has but he can sure play piano!!!
