I met a little chilli padi at our Singapore Youth Festival Celebrations at Gardens by the Bay recently. When the petite Nur Umairah Bte Mohammad Shafiq , in P4 at Jiemin Primary, took the stage to sing Beyonce’s “Listen”, she wowed everyone with her powerful and expressive voice. Umairah was discovered through our very own SYF Got Talent! Showcase. Did you know that our students can upload videos of their performances for the chance to get invited to perform at the SYF Celebrations? I think this is a great way to encourage our kids to explore different art forms, and to work hard on developing their talents . Of course, Umairah’s musician dad plays a big part in her love for music too. He used to bring her along to his performances where she sometimes sang with his band. Umairah’s dream is to record her own album. I wish her the best in pursuing her dream.
