It made little sense for Israel to turn to a golden calf when - TopicsExpress

It made little sense for Israel to turn to a golden calf when Moses went into the mountain for 40 days and nights. God brought them from Egypt and drowned their enemies in the Red Sea. It made little sense for them to claim they needed a God they could see. When Moses returned from the mount with the 10 commandments in his hands, he found a people that were completely blessed, but were yet in a mess. What Israel did, made little sense. When we think about our lives, there are times when we have done some things that have made little sense. We have said cruel things to a spouse who has done nothing but love us. We have wasted resources we know should have been used for better purposes. We have done all this, with the full knowledge that should be doing better. It doesn’t make sense. Even as it relates to God, we have really related to him in ways that have not made sense. We doubted him in our times of trial, when we know that he has never abandoned us in the past. We have turned to other gods that demand our time and attention, when God has never failed us. It doesn’t make sense. Often our spiritual lives are a complete mess. Moses had to tear down the golden calf, bring Israel to its senses and challenge the people to be on the Lord’s side. When we come to our senses, we realize that God has been good to us. Even while we are doing stupid things that make very little sense, creating a big mess for ourselves, God loves us. In our illogical mess, God continues to bless.
