It pisses me off when I see Models/ Artist getting taken advantage of by their Artist collaborators. Too many times I have been, and have SEEN people (YES MODELS ARE PEOPLE) get treated like a prop, or a pet, left shivering, or starving, or being creep-ed upon, or C.) all the above. Not only that, but since modeling is already a very vulnerable thing to be doing, and there is a weird power dynamic that happens between the person holding the camera (paintbrush, etc) and the person in front of it, I have seen models put up with all kinds of abuse. DONT PUT UP WITH THE ABUSE! even if you are getting paid! especially if you are getting paid!! this only perpetuates this notion that if you are getting paid, you immediately become something other than a human being. Dont compromise your safety, and comfort levels just for payment. Only do things you are comfortable with! yes, shivering in a tide pool to get a perfect shot is sometimes necessary, but you should have your basic needs attended to first. Photographers, Videographers, Painters, etc. The person who is standing in front of you, is just that...a PERSON. Offer them some Tea, when doing slightly more risque work, provide references on the first email, listen to their needs, pay attention to their body language, do they seem okay with what you are asking them to do? ask them if they need anything, or how they are doing! Offer them to bring an escort, or an assistant if you feel like that will make it easier to make your art! Even if you dont think you are the best model, Whether it be because you feel like you are still getting the hang of movements, dont look good enough, have a weird body, lazy eye etc. Please dont compromise your comforts and safety! and dont ever let anyone make you feel this way, as hard as it may be
