It probably comes as no surprise to any of you, but my mind often works in strange ways. Last night I wrote a Netflix review that criticised a Ron Howard movie for not being up to his usual standards in several ways that I thought spoiled the movie. Afterward I dreamt that Howard read the review and asked me to partner with him on his next film, so we were driving all over San Antonio looking for office space while I quizzed him about the intricacies of the movie business. When I asked questions about the costs of special effects, musical scoring, and building sets or models instead of shooting on location (things I thought were poorly done in the movie Id critiqued) he kept answering, I really dont know. In exasperation I finally asked him, How can you make as many movies as youve made and not know how much these things cost?! Thats what I need YOU for! was his answer. It woke me from a sound sleep!
