It seems I have been nominated by Karen Jeffrey to post 5 songs over 5 days, that have had a profound effect on me. So ok, Ill give it a go; Day 1 is a no-brainer for me. Child of the Universe by Barclay James Harvest. First time I heard it was also the first time I got drunk. Think I was 14 at the time and my brother John had taken me to a Worcester rock-disco called The Purple Rhino (thanks big bro). Hed bought me a couple a couple of pints of diesel (lager/cider mix with blackcurrant) and as I was feeling rather wonderful, this song came on. Incredible music in a blacked out room, except for the projection of the Earth slowly rotating on the ceiling above me. WOW ! I thought life doesnt get better than this, and I want the rest of it to be like this (and pretty much, it has been). Led to a life-long love of BJH, rock music and booze.
