It seems the University had sought official permission to prune branches upto 5 inches in diameter, so that the bats would leave. I dont understand why they would want to disturb the bats. But the University, in its actual pruning far exceeded its permission and hacked nearly all branches. Both the BMC and the Tree Authority have taken serious note. Unauthorised cutting is a cognizable offence. The BMC has sent a notice to the University and will take action. The University, on the other hand, is conducting its own enquiry. The Registrar has pointed to the possibility of the wood being stolen.
