It seems these days as though folks are looking for everything to be done automatically. One of the most notable automatic conveniences is the hands-free car wash; I do believe every town has one, regardless of population. There is always a line of people waiting to feed their seven dollars into the machine, inch into the bay as the jets hose off the bottom of the vehicle, then sit in park while the robot sud-ses and de-sud-ses the car. You can even pay extra for additional soap, scrubber agitation, a wax, and a blow dry to your precious automobile. That is all pretty neat, and I will admit I have used the modern conveniences before, but honestly, seven bucks to get the car hosed off? Nah. Farm kids learn at a young age that there is a far better way to clean off your ride without all the automated voices and rejected wrinkly dollar bills. Nothing will scrub your car like tall, wet grass. Even the most mud-caked vehicle wont hold up to soaked Orchardgrass at 65 mph. Just scout out your preferred location, wait for a dewy morning, and haul your truck off the road at a lively clip to achieve a perfect soak-and-rinse situation. Die-hards will carry a bottle of Dawn with them to spray out the window as they navigate. If the field is a rough one you can achieve significant agitation as you bounce across the ruts, knocking loose all of those nasty mud clumps. Need a wax? Hit a bee hive, but make sure you roll up the windows first and keep your foot in the gas for a while so they cant catch up. Obviously the undercarriage will be polished as those grassy mops scrape across the bottom, and if youre lucky you will find a low tree limb to pass under so you dont have to clean the roof. Drying can be achieved with a few quick passes up and down the pavement. And you absolutely will not have to deal with a stuck-up machine spitting your dollar back on the ground. Isnt that great? Before you all run out to try this I will mention that you should make sure you are not using someones hay field as your wash bay or someones bee box as your wax. That can cause some hard feelings. So plan ahead, put a bottle of soap behind the seat, and prepare yourself for the next soggy morning!
