It seems to me that of all the Silver Age characters, artists had the most latitude when drawing the Hulk. Though he was always big and green, sometimes he was horrible, sometimes he was almost handsome. How strict were Marvels character guidelines? Ive read the stories about Kirbys Superman heads being redrawn so they wouldnt vary from the prototype so much, presumably for copyright reasons. Was that a D.C. thing? Spider-Mans webbing also seemed to vary from artist to artist. I always assumed there was some kind of stylebook with all the specifications for every major character. Was there such a thing? How strictly was it followed?
