It was 1973 and we missed Vermont and wanted to move back to the country. It wasnt Vermont but close and we fell in love with Basel Rd in Walker Valley. The house needed a lot of work but was exactly what we were looking for. Five bedrooms and all 4 children had their own room. Art built a beautiful fireplace downstairs. We collected rocks from camping trips, to Vermont, Rhode Island, Conn., Mass. Maine and they are all a part of his beautiful creation. We got rid of our tv and our kids discovered playing games was fun. The kids could grab a pole and spend their day fishing. The pond across the street was great for frog legs in the summer and skating in the winter. For the past 10 years we have enjoyed a pair of eagles at the pond and every year they have an eaglet or two. Then Art decided to build a home on his favorite place on the property. That project is another story. Brad was only one left in the nest. In later years He built a beautiful home across the street on the pond and his children continue to enjoy the wonders of Walker Valley. We, unfortunately, entrusted our home to others. Each year neglect and lack of pride in the home began to show. I got to the point where I could not look at the house when I drove by. This year we lost insurance coverage and knew something had to be done. Everyone told me the best thing to do was to get a bulldozer and bury it. I could not let it go. Brad owns a construction company and said: Mom, I can fix it! That was a short 7 weeks ago. I marvel at what his crew has done. My grandson works with Brad. It costs close to $20,000 just to clean up the junk in the yard and the basement. They then gutted the entire inside of the house. I find myself pulling over these past couple of weeks just to enjoy the beauty of the home that has returned and I am so grateful. It is a new home. There are 5 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, 2 beautiful fireplaces, hardwood floors upstairs, completely finished downstairs. Brad always told me being the youngest he got last pick of a bedroom which he always called the closet. He said now it is a good sized bedroom. There is a new furnace, air-conditioning, windows, roof, and siding. He hopes to finish it by mid-October. If you know of someone looking for a home, call. There is still time if you want to have some input into the new kitchen or floor plans. You cant beat the location for raising a family. It sits on 2.10 Acres. Brad, I am so impressed with you and your KBCW Construction Company. Thank you Shawn, Justin, Tyler and Brian and everyone else for rebuilding my dream. I will attempt to add a picture.
