It was 40 years ago this weekend (on June 9, 1973) that I, with millions of others, watched one of, if not THE, single greatest moment in all of sports when Secretariat captured the Triple Crown (for the first time since Citation won it in 1948) with an incredible 31-length victory in The Belmont Stakes. Not only did he smoke every other horse in that mile and a half endurance test, his 1:59.1 time in the Kentucky Derby that year still stands as the fastest Derby ever.
