It was derby day in Wanganui Cricket on Saturday with both teams playing Their respective Tech counterparts. The property brokers kicked off proceedings in fine form winning the toss....finally and throwing the young guns into bat. Brendan Walker opened up with Danger at the other end and bowled beautifully, with Megan in early stages of labour he bowled his 10 overs on the trot in case things progressed quickly. He ended with 1-32 and was instrumental in tying down the Tech top order with Danger who went for 0-14 off his 10, the last going for 8. This allowed Robbie Power to come in and mop up the middle order and tail taking 5-15. Tech being all out for 121 in the 37th over. A meagre total but cricket can be a tricky game with Techs import opening bowler Paul OCallaghan moving the ball off the seam both ways and taking 3 wickets in his 2nd over then removing pup in his 3rd to have us 4-12. This required the rest to dig in, and aided by some fired up comments Robbie and Danger did just that, knocking the total off in the 22nd over. Robbie ended on 63no and Danger 21no. Both proving to Tech that talk is cheap especially if you arent going to back it up. The David Jones motors 2nds had an emotional day. They bowled Tech out for 187. With Marty being the pick of the bowlers taking 5-49. A very gettable total the lads set about the task of knocking it off. The usual collapse happened after Martin Pennefather and Karl Bremner got them off to a solid start. Marty making 20, being dismissed with the score on 34, saw them slump to 71-5, until captain fantastic Ritesh Verma came in and plundered the Tech bowling with some booming drives and pulls. His 51 runs coming off just 24 balls. Unfortunately he departed with the score on 137 trying to go over the top again. This left the rest of the chase to the youngsters and Bob, who managed to get the scores tied with 1 ball remaining. Unfortunately for the lads Bob wore his lead boots out and was out plum in front LBW with the scores tied. An unusual feat in cricket.
