It was not so long ago that onions (bawang in tagalog, ahos in bisaya) made the headlines in all national media outlets. All trumpeted the sky rocketing price of such essential ingredient for cooking that reached P360 pesos per kilo. Blaming the government for not doing anything about it as if the people would surely starve to death if the high price of the said spicy wont be controlled. The media gave so much importance of the news as if it is between life and death for every Filipinos without it spicing their food. Then yesterday, i happened to wander in the vegetable section of SM Taytays supermarket after buying some chips and corn bits to crunch during my habitual FB hours. I was lured into that section upon seeing a beautiful sight that caught my eyes. When i was nearing the objective, suddenly, i remember the onion brouhaha and was tempted to check the prevailing price forgetting my first reason why i was led to that area. I am just wondering why onions suddenly vanished from the news. i lifted a kilo of it to check the price tag and it listed P130.00 per kilo. So you see, nobody cares anymore to report the prevailing cheap price. All the news outlets care are news that can generate hostile emotion towards the consuming public. They only care about the bad news and didnt seem to care about the response of the concern agencies if it has successfully solved the problem. The media could have at least has the wit to balance its news reporting. Ika nga, KUNG MAY BAD NEWS may GOOD NEWS NAMAN. But they really dont care at all and move on to another bad news.
