It was on this date, January 11th, 1995, the WB Network was launched with the first episode of the Wayans Bros.. The character for the network was none other than Michigan J Frog from One Froggy Evening was the Master of Ceremonies and became the mascot of the WB Network. The WB started on many TV stations including WPIX-TV (channel 11) in New York City, KTLA-TV (channel 5) in Los Angeles, and many other TV stations around the 48 states. The WB lasted 11 years until the network ended in the fall of 2006 when it became CW and it still remains to this day. Ive seen bits and pieces of the show that was on the The WB as shown on WPIX-TV (channel 11) and it was not that great. Ive never liked it since day one when it signed on. This was when channel 11 made some changes, they dropped independent for good which has been for a long time and replaced with network shows. The 8:00 Movie which has been part of channel 11s staple for years has pushed back to selected nights instead of weeknights where they used to played movies that are on TV, thanks to the cable channels like HBO or any of the movie channels that run movies and home video that had movies that youve bought or rented for years. In honor of the 20th anniversary of the launch of the The WB, here is the launch including Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck made their cameos along with Chuck Jones and the arrival of Michigan J Frog that helped launch the WB and the first episode of The Wayans Bros., the show that started it all. Enjoy!
