It was pure fun ride a Yamaha Rx-135 in Trivandrum surroundings and explore. that vintage bike still packs a surprising punch. Poovar backwaters are not comparable to alleppy in beauty of still waters in the midst of lush green landscape but one will forget all comparisons once getting to estuary island beach where a river meets arabian ocean. This is the first time i saw ocean waves crossing over beach into river occasionally. First time I saw some thing as forest of coconut trees :). Kanyakumari is much beyond what has been advertised if you are willing to explore. walking in the back alleys of fishermens houses next to beach and finding the one of the most beautiful church in a unlikely place. sunrise in the beach is one of the most beautiful things to see. Finally, few words of advice. if you are planning to visit kanyakumari ever, I suggest landing in trivandrum than directly landing there. you can rent bikes in trivandrum but not in kanyakumari where travel is very costly. it is 10 times cheaper & less tiresome to travel in passenger trains from & to between trivandrum & kanyakumari than taxis . there are some ac coach buses from getting out of kanyakumari if are willing to wait half an hour to hour. Get a resort with direct beach view in kovalam for better experience. Good example in light house beach is Pappukutty resort.
