It was quite the day in the Legislature today, one I was totally - TopicsExpress

It was quite the day in the Legislature today, one I was totally floored by what went down. We get settled into our seats and going through the House calendar, and Im feeling pretty good about myself. You see, I made a point of reading every last word of it last night before going to bed. So anyway, I was following along, minding my ps and qs. Then they took roll call. All I had to do was hit one big green button. What do I do? Hit the button to SPEAK! And if it hadnt been for my seatmate, Id have never known the difference. And wouldve been marked absent. Fast forward a few minutes. Theyre going through a bunch of formal stuff before we can go over to the inauguration. All of a sudden I hear my name being called. Well naturally, I think I am in the doghouse for my mishap earlier. Next thing I know, Im on my way to the Governors office to tell him he won the election, along with everyone else on State and Local Government. Anyways, we march into the Governors office, proud as peacocks, he chats with us a few minutes, congratulates each of us on our elections. We do the same, and were on our merry way. Youve got to understand, Im already on Cloud 9 for having gotten away with a faux pas. Then we get to the Civic Center and are given third row seats. But it doesnt end there. Nope. Were given em for a reason. Our little State and Local Committee gets to accompany the Governor into the inauguration on behalf of the whole Legislature, and the judiciary. And theres 3000 people watching us -- in the room, not counting those watching on TV. By this time my legs are pretty wobbly. And if it hadnt been for Rep. Turner, youd probably be getting this message from the ER, because I surely wouldve fainted. It gets better. We are escorted to a room where the Governor is watching the ceremony. The First Lady is speaking. We all gather around the TV and watch. And let me tell you how much of a treat it was to be there with the Governor, seeing it from his perspective. I wont talk out of school, but lets just say it was pretty darn cool, pretty darn cool seeing the Governor wrapped up in the whole thing just like anybody else watching in TV land. What an incredible, wild, crazy, mind blowing, experience. That a dopey kid from Hadley Lake Road would have a major role to play in the inauguration. Just wish Mother, Father, Joe Tuell & Dorrie Mulligan were there to see it. But awful happy Dale Richardson, Mike Look, and Bucket Davis were!
