It was wonderful to join Emma Thompson, Peter Gabriel and Vivienne Westwood on today’s huge London People’s March Against Climate Destruction. Climate chaos is happening. It is the biggest threat to humanity and global security. It threatens catastrophe. We have to stop it. Concerted international cooperation can cut carbon emissions and prevent disaster. Governments must act now, not tomorrow. Without remedial action, our planet will suffer the melting of ice-caps, major rises in sea levels, droughts in Africa, America and Asia, crop failures, regular deadly freak storms and the decimation of fish stocks through ocean acidification - creating mass hunger, hundreds of millions of climate refugees, economic collapse and menacing human rights.
