Itchy yellow Lab advice, please! Our sweet Cosmo (7 yr old pure English Lab) scratches and licks himself from late June through late fall. This has gotten worse with age. We try to wipe his paws and underside with a wet cloth after hes played outdoors; we give him Benadryl each morning; AND hes been on a seafood/rice based food for most of his life. He takes salmon/vitamin E oil AND Ive tried a natural anti-itch spray from Earthbath that is made up of oatmeal, aloe, vitamin E and tea tree oil that seems to give him SOME relief. Bathing him more often does not seem to relieve symptoms. The worst itching and crustiness is in the pit under each leg and in the groin. I have resisted stronger steroid/antihistamine treatments. Am I misguided? We welcome thoughts, ideas and successful treatment regimens! He is our first (and quite beloved) Lab . . . and I hate to see him so quietly miserable! Are steroids the best course?
