Itron announced today that it has completed installation of its automated gas metering solution for ATCO Gas, provider of natural gas service to more than one million customers in Alberta, marking the largest gas automation project in Canada to date. Itron’s gas metering solution included 1.1 million gas communication modules, mobile and handheld collectors and associated software. Itron’s automated gas metering solution is designed to help utilities like ATCO Gas streamline the meter reading process, improve operational efficiency and reduce costs. The installation at ATCO Gas was scheduled to be completed within four years, but took just over two years to complete. Itron and ATCO Gas worked together to manage all aspects of the effort, including project management and endpoint installation. “Automated meter reading allows us to read meters through a mobile collector as we drive through neighborhoods. This makes meter reading safer for our employees and more convenient for our customers,” says Bill Stephens, president, ATCO Gas. “Itron’s top priority is to ensure our customers are satisfied and their business needs are met.
