Its 9 am and the Walker Park splash pad is now open for children - TopicsExpress

Its 9 am and the Walker Park splash pad is now open for children under 5 and their parents or guardians. But theres a question we get all the time in the summer about the splash pad...what if I have a child who is under 5 and a child who is over 5 ? Can they use the splash pad together on weekdays from 9 to 11 am when it is reserved for small kids ? It is a challenge because many families find themselves in exactly this situation. They have a 3 year old and an 8 year old and want to have the little one able to enjoy and benefit from a calmer time on the splash pad but, at the same time, enjoy that activity with their older sibling. The posted rules indicate that 9 am to 11 am on weekdays is reserved for children 5 and under with their parents or guardians. We understand that it may make it harder for some families but as a courtesy to our other guests, we encourage people to abide by the posted rules and regulations. While one 8 year old may not be a big deal, if 10 families all brought their little ones and their older ones, we could have a dozen or more much older kids who play rougher and run faster - all of which are great but sort of defeat the purpose of the toddler time. There are other options available at Walker Park as well for older kids. The playground and sand volleyball court offer other things to keep them busy during toddler time on the splash pad. Weve also talked to some families who arrive at, say, 10:30 so the little ones have some time on the splash pad and then can be joined by their older siblings at 11. Lets observe the posted signs, be courteous of others, put trash in its place and help keep Walker Park a great facility for guests of all ages. Most importantly, lets get out and have some big fun this summer in Atoka parks !
